Hello:
As a traditional artist & printmaker as well as a human rights advocate/activist one of my strongest influences has been Kathe Kollwitz. An amazing artist & print-maker. A woman ahead of her time and dedicated to expose the injustices & social ills in a society that, perhaps, she saw beginning to deteriorate before the onslaught of the Holocaust.
As artists we mirror what we see/feel happening around us. A visual/lyrical or simply honest portrayal of what's going on has the ability to raise awareness, validate & empower people> As well, and most importantly, to promote change. I've come to believe that, as an artist, it's almost my duty to convey these thoughts/reflections regardless of popularity.
I'm much better at putting my thoughts into the artistic realm than trying to write things such as this.
I suppose the bottom line is that our country (US) is changing. And not in ways that are positive... There are many left without a sense of belonging and targeted for no other reason than they are seeking help.
With this in mind and now that this group is going, it's my sincere hope that others will read about her in this article. If you'd like to keep up in my private forum or add to a collaborative effort anonymity, if desired, will be utmost.
The risks Kathe Kollwitz took to not only show the world what was happening but genuinely and clearly states 'WHY? HOW? and HELP US !!!!! This isn't right & I cannot do it alone but if i have to, i will...if for nothing else than to stop history from repeating itself. So the world will not EVER FORGET '
Please read and rate the article. I apologize as this was my first news article.
I had wanted to add more info not knowing editing wasn't an option until after I did update, however, & appreciate support/feedback etc...
I'm putting some ideas together for future ref. about what's been happening in this country over the last 10+ years _ In the meantime, here is the link
